Frequently Asked Questions

When should I be there on race day?

If you have already picked up your number tag the days before, it is enough to be there fifteen minutes before your distance starts. 15 minutes before we have information and warm-up. If you pick up your number tag on site, you need to be there at least 30 minutes before your start. The starting area opens at 09:00 or shortly before, so avoid arriving before then - as we are busy with preparations.

  • Marathon starts at 10:00
  • Half marathon starts at 10:30
  • 10,5 km starts at 11:00
  • 5,5 km starts at 11:30

Cancellations

We at 6 Lakes have a generous, own refund policy.

If the race is cancelled, we will refund your fee minus 100 SEK.

  • Cancel at least one week before the start. We will refund your fee minus 100 SEK in administration.
  • Up to three days before, minus 150 SEK.
  • Up to the day before: You will not receive a refund, but you can keep your ticket until next year.

Which shoes should I choose?

Regular running shoes are fine. The important thing is that you have shoes that you are comfortable with. If you like trail shoes, that's fine too, but the only distance where you get any major advantage is 5,5 km - the majority of which consists of forest paths. The other distances are mostly gravel roads, with shorter sections in the forest. On the marathon, there is a total of 5 km of forest paths, then mostly gravel and some asphalt.

So-called “barefoot shoes” or FiveFingers are only recommended for very experienced runners. There is one person who ran a marathon wearing those shoes, but that is extreme.

When is the last day to register?

You can register late, but the price will increase gradually, tentatively around December 1, at the beginning of the summer and 30 days before the start the price will increase. Preliminary we close registration two weeks before the start date, but it may also be earlier if the race is full. If space is available, it is possible to register on the day of the race for an additional fee. Keep an eye on our Facebook page.

As a thank you for registering early, we are generous in refunding the fee if you have to cancel.

Where can I find information about the buses?

How often is fluid check?

Approximately every three kilometers. At 5 km this means only one fluid control, at the marathon there are 13. The range varies, but our controls get very good ratings from the runners. Here you can see a map with the controls.

What sports drink do you get?

We serve Umara sports drink with lemon flavor. (Information updated 2024). It is available at the start and finish and at all hydration stations except for a few during the marathon that are called "water only".

How does it work with mugs?

We are a cup free race, meaning you fill your own cup, bottle or similar with water and sports drink at the hydration control. All participants who do not have their own cup will receive a reusable cup from us for free.

Are there toilets along the course?

We have our own toilets set up at Lövstahagen and Norredatorp, but there are more places. Ask an official on site or look for them yourself, we haven't posted any signs.

  • Borgis/Borgardalsbadet (Marathon 4,5 km), outdoor toilet at the swimming area
  • Funbo Church: (Marathon 24 km), WC at the church
  • Lövstahagen (Half marathon and marathon)
  • Söderby (Half marathon and marathon)
  • Norredatorp (Marathon 37 km or half marathon 15,5 km)

Can you run with a dog?

Yes, it's fine as long as you keep your distance, at the start it can be crowded and you may need to be extra careful. Email info@6sjoar.se beforehand so we can have a dialogue if any other participant would be afraid of dogs at the same distance. So far there have only been a few dogs, but if there are many we may have to limit. More about running with a dog.

How does timing work?

Timing is handled by the company Neptron. The number tag contains a small disposable chip that is automatically read at the finish line. Your meal will appear directly on the website.

For distances of 10, 21 and 42 km, the time starts when you cross the starting line. For 21 km, we divide into three starting groups. This means you don't lose any time by coming far behind the starting field.

What does the starting area look like?

From 2025 we will be located on the grassy field near the campsite in Fjällnora. There we have our own area with tents and our own spaces.

Are medals, diplomas and T-shirts awarded?

We try to think about the environment and sustainability. We have a very nice wooden medal, made in Sweden. The diplomas are available as PDF online on your results page, and you can print them yourself if you wish. T-shirts will not be awarded, but you will be able to buy them on site, or order them and we will send them. There are medals at the finish line for anyone who wants them! And we will give out a smart reusable mug.

There are many opinions about T-shirts and functional shirts. Some want one and then they should get one. Others don't care, and then it's of course unnecessary. So instead of handing out a cheap, poor quality shirt, you get to buy one when you buy a ticket. You can choose a T-shirt made of fair trade and eco-labeled cotton – or one in functional material made from recycled material.

Where does the money go?

The race is run by the 6 Lakes association, whose sole purpose is to run the race. If there is a surplus, the money goes to next year's race. An important part of the implementation are all the officials, most of whom come from local sports clubs. They receive a portion of the proceeds to support their activities. Other major expenses include timing, marketing, preparation of the course and 15 fluid controls. The proceeds come from 80–100% of the participation fees. Uppsala Municipality is providing space and a temporary bridge over Pålsundet. We are going to back out of the T-shirts we sell, but we hope that you will help to make the race more visible!

Is it suitable for me as a slow exerciser?

Yes, absolutely. As long as you can jog a little leisurely on a forest path, it's fine for you! We want to get more people out and about.

Can you walk the entire route?

Yes, on the two shorter distances 5 and 10 km it is perfectly possible to walk the entire distance. On the longer distances it takes a little too long to walk the entire way. You should be back by 16 pm. You can be out until 17 pm, but you should let us know. After 16 pm we start collecting fluid checks etc.

Is there a maximum time?

You are in no hurry, but the water controls will close as the last runners pass. Preliminary maximum times are for 5 km: 1 hour 15 minutes, 10 km: 2 hours, 21 km: 3 hours 30 minutes, 42 km 6 hours. If you need more time, just walk, but with the risk that the water stations will be closed. The finish area and timing are open until at least 4 pm. It has happened that the last runner has entered after 5 pm. We will remain at the finish until the last runner has entered.

Is it suitable for me as an elite?

Yes, you are very welcome! But don't count on any prize money or medals. We take time and have result lists, but otherwise we don't have an elite effort.

Can I change the distance?

Email info@6sjoar.se if you want to change. This is fine up to two days before the start, if you change later you can run a different distance, but there is a risk that your time will be wrong. If you change your mind during the race you must tell an official. It is only the two longest distances where you can take a shortcut (at 42 km you can in practice change your mind and only run around one or two lakes.)

Can I get lost?

The course is well marked with signs, signs and arrows. There is always a small risk that you will miss a course marking or that some marking is missing. On the shortest distance, 5 km, you just spread out around a lake. So if you miss the path, you will soon find your way back. On the longest distance, the course markings are less frequent. Therefore, it may be wise to check the map beforehand and bring a mobile phone with you.

Can I shower and change?

Fjällnora is Uppsala Municipality's most popular swimming spot. You can swim in the lake and there is a cold water shower. We have changing tents for men and women.

All 4 saunas in Fjällnora are booked for us, so it's free for our runners. They are booked until 19:00 PM for us. We don't know how popular it will be, but hopefully there will be room for everyone.

Is the restaurant open?

Regular opening hours are 10:00-16:00. We have asked Fjällnora to open at 09:00 on the day of the competition.

How far before the start should I arrive?

Half an hour before the start is enough. If you haven't picked up your number tag earlier, it's a good idea to be there 45 minutes before the start. You can pick up your number tag at the Travel Center, Thursday and Friday before the race. Read more.

Can I leave my bag?

Yes, there is a bag drop-off area at the start and finish.

Is there a babysitter?

We will arrange it, mailto:info@6sjoar It may be at cost price, depending on age and number of people interested.

How do I get started?

Run, cycle, take the bus, steam train, car or canoe. We offer a free bus from the Travel Centre in Uppsala . If you book in advance, it is free, if you have not registered that you are going to take the bus you can still go, but if it gets crowded – give your seat to the others.
