Run a race with a dog

Timetable from Running with a dog

Runners with dogs are welcome to the 6 Lakes race. You can run a marathon, half marathon, 10 km or 5 km with a dog. So far we have only had a few runners with dogs and it has gone really well. Register for the race here.

There is no extra charge to bring your dog, but please contact us at info@6sjoar.se if you are planning to bring a four-legged friend – or if you are bothered by dogs. This allows us to ensure that there are not too many dogs – and if there are any runners who are afraid of dogs, we can make sure that you keep your distance.

Dogs can contribute to well-being and motivate tired runners.

How long can a dog run?

Of course, it depends on how trained the dog is and what breed it is. Small dog breeds can sometimes run surprisingly fast and long, while others – like dachshunds and bulldogs – don't do well at all.

What should you keep in mind when running with your dog?

First of all, dogs also need to be trained for the distance. A good leash of course, but if you are running a longer distance and it is hot, you need to plan for water for the dog.

Most of the time everything goes well, but there may be dogs that get stressed from being among many running people, in which case it may be good to initially run just behind the group.

Of course, you should take care not to disturb other runners. Along the way, you will probably meet dog owners out walking their dogs. Also, keep in mind that several sections go through forests, where there are attractions in the form of wild animals and birds.

Dogs can often run longer than you think. But of course, both you and your dog should train before the race.
